Match Review Piala Sumbangsih | Johor Darul Ta'zim FC 3-0 Selangor FC

The 2025 Piala Sumbangsih, which also served as the 2025/26 Super League opener yesterday between Selangor FC and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) FC, ended with a 3-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor.

A thrilling match between two teams who are great rivals in the Malaysian football scene. JDT took the lead with a goal in the first minute but the team continued to recover and put up a good fight, denying attempts from the opposition until the end of the first half. Despite conceding two goals in the second half, the team worked hard to reduce the number of goals conceded rather than increasing them.

According to Katsuhito Kinoshi, Head Coach of Selangor FC, he accepted the defeat against JDT but was proud of the players’ hard work.

“In the first minute, we lost focus and conceded a goal, which of course disrupted the rhythm a little. However, after that, we managed to counterattack quite well. The players continued to stay focused and fought as hard as they could until the end of the match, even though it ended with a 3-0 result. I see that we need better quality training to show better performance in the next match. Even though we lost, I am still proud of the players because they understood and translated the style of play that I wanted well,” he said.

“In addition, this is the first experience for new players such as Zach Clough, Kevin Deeromram and Chrigor Moraes in the Malaysian league. Although what they showed yesterday was not the best performance, I believe they will improve over time. I am confident that they will give a better performance in the next match,” he added.

“At the same time, the atmosphere in the dressing room remains strong under captain Faisal Halim even though we lost. The players have a good bond as a team. They continue to show a clear desire to improve themselves and I am very happy with their mentality and commitment,” explained the Selangor FC Head Coach.

The Selangor FC management wants the team to look ahead and give their best for the next Liga Super 2025/26 match against Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota (DPMM) FC on 12 August 2025 at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya. Keep up the fight Red Giants!
